Mental Health Awareness Month
According to recent research, the National Alliance on Mental Illness has reported that 1 in 5 Americans have been found to be affected by mental illness. This includes children! In fact, about half of all chronic mental illnesses begin by the age of 14.
Mental health and physical health are inseparable. This means that those who are affected by mental illness are more likely to suffer from other physical and chronic illness. The risk is even higher in those who delay seeking care.
Sadly, many with mental health issues do not seek treatment. This is often due to the stigma surrounding mental illness which may cause those effected to experience feelings of fear or shame. While mental illness may require continued care, stigma is 100% curable by expressing sympathy, empathy, and understanding.
If you or someone you know is showing signs of mental illness, please seek help.
